Almost every spring I wind up with excess water in my fuel filters. I am in the Lake Erie area and winnter store outside on blocks. As you can imagine it does not run well with water in the gas. This year there was about was about 2" of water measured in a qt jar from the starbord side filter and 1/16 " on the port. Last year I had a few drops on both sidesand and there was no problem. 2 years ago both filters had 1"-to 2" of water and over the years I have had as much as 5" of water measured in a Qt. jar. This has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the boat used in 1992 with only 22 hrs on the engines. I was told by a local boat yard that the fuel fill and vent were directly at the water run off area and may be causing the problem. The other guess was the aluminum tanks. Has anyone else had this problem on the 1991 33' wide body aft cabin. I had a boat yard test the tanks with a test stick and they said it was normal with only a trace showing on the stick.

I had a similar problem except I would get two gallons of water in a 100 gal tank.

I checked with both Carver and the Tank manufacturer in Florida. Both companies told me to check the Vent lines. The vent lines should be routed up from the vents, approximately 6 to 8 inches, and then down into the tanks, forming an up-side down "U". Otherwise water can enter the vent lines and run directly into the tanks.
The vent lines on all three of my tanks ran directly into the tanks. I corrected the problem and so far, it's workig fine.

I checked the U loop in both lines. They seem to be 6-8 inches or more .Could the water still get into the tank through the vent tube if the water was under pressure. How about the newer plastic vents that have a non-siphon valve.

have you checked the o rings in the fill caps?
