I am looking at a 1992 Searay 270 with a 5.7l bravo 2 with around 800 hours ,has a good survey and good mechanical test. Anything else I should look for? My first cruiser. Thanks in advance.
Others will probably tell you, that's a lot of boat with only a 5.7. It really needs a 7.4.
When you sea trial it, make sure the fuel and water tanks are full and there are 4 people on board.
My boat is a 1992 Regal 260. It weighs 6200lbs vs 5600lbs. The single 7.4 is more than adequate for me; tops out in the mid 40's. Being this boat is lighter, with a Bravo 2 versus my Bravo 1, the 5.7 may work fine. Agree that the boat should be loaded to see how she runs.
I was looking at Yachtworld at another 1992 - Model 270 that has a 7.4, 300HP, Bravo II. It's advertised with 20 knot cruise and 30 knot top end. I'd hate to think what that boat would do with a 5.7.
I'd take 6 people and add all the water you can! Make sure they all sit behind you during the sea trial! THEN make your decision on whether or not the 5.7 is enough! We had an 87 250 DA with the 454 Magnum and I wouldn't want LESS engine in a boat that size!
Thanks everyone for your fast replies. Great advice ,testing tomorrow just invited a 1000 lbs. of my big buddies to go with me. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again

Hi Just thought I would let you know that the 5.7 was not enough.I brought my friends with me sat behind us while attemting to go on plane they all had to move forward and even then very sluggish. The couple that owned the boat said they never had that problem because they boated by themselves. Thanks again for the advice ,no sale.
