I am going to look at a 1994 chris craft with twin Cobra 5.8 outdrive. Is this a reliable boat and are the engines and outdrives a good match for the boat? Thanks

Yes. No.

The crown is a beautiful boat. 5.7's will disappoint you. Cobra drive parts may be getting scarce.

I looked at two 1994 Chris Craft Crowne's back in 2003. They both suffered from the same problems. They leaked around the deck hardware, fill caps and windows. Both boats had severe moisture problems in the foredeck, transom and stringers. The surveyor I used did some research and told me that Chris Craft didn't seal the weep holes or the transom cutouts around this period (1994) which explained the moisture issues. I never even got far enough into the survey to take them for a test spin so I can't say how the 5.8's would perform. One thing I did look into at the time was the possibility of converting to Volvo drives. At the time, I was told that it can be done easily on that boat, but don't hold me to that. It was 4 years ago.

Needless to say, I didn't buy either of them and bought my 95 Regal 322 instead (see sig).

do some research but i believe this was near the end of the line for older Chris Craft and quality was not what it should have been. they ceased production sometimes in the mid 90s then restarted as completly new company a few years ago.

cobras being out of production are not ideal compared to volvos of that vintage...
