Hello everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the 4th of July weekend.

I was hoping somebody here has or had a 1998 Sea Ray 270. We just moved to Long Island and it would be my first boat here. Have kept various boats at lakes in the past, but am looking to get into some more serious boating out here (likely South Shore from what I've read already).

I don't want to go to big as I'm going to be exploring waters, taking small trips etc (Just me and my wife, plus occassional friends - no kids yet).

Anyone have any thoughts regarding this boat. There is one for sale locally at a more than fair price, and I'm scheduled to go see it early this week.

Additionally, any tips and ideas about getting started boating on LI would be helpful. I'm more than adept at handling the boat. My larger concern is the water out here and places to, visit etc.

Thanks everyone, and if this boat is in decent shape I look forward to seeing some of you out there!.

Where on the South shore will you be boating..........there is alot of difference between east or west ....south shore.

Probably going to keep it between Merrick and Seaford so it is relatively close by

Mantle, I'm in Merrick and know alot of the marinas in the area and such as i do a lot of business with the marine trades. Any questions feel free to reach out.

Capt - Thanks, I'll definitely reach out as this gets a little closer. Need to get a boat first.

Good luck on the boat search, if you're looking at a 27 try to find one with twins, otherwise docking in the wind can be a real pain.

yeah - I think almost everything I'm looking at has twins - and like you said, not even for speed, but the maneuverability is crucial. There sure is a lot out there right now! It's exciting

yeah, I have a 25ft ChrisCraft crowne with single big block i/o love the boat, but keep looking for a steal on soemthing a little bigger and with twins.
