2012 Jones Beach Air Show

We're planning to spend the weekend in the bay. I'm trying to work through the logistics having a friend and his family meet us somewhere close so that they can join us on the boat. I figure I can either pick them up very early in the morning or borrow friends dink and pick them up somewhere later in the morning.

Anyone have any suggestions on where they could park their car for the day and where we could pick them up?

The jones beach theatre has parking right there. Would have to get there early to get a spot. Then they could I guess drag all there stuff down the beach to where u can pick them up. Do a google map thing and ull see what im talking about. U cant pull the dink up to where they park though. U would for sure need a dink to get to the beach !

I see. Do you think they'll have any problem getting into that lot? You're sure it's open for this event? I see where they could walk along the south shore of the Zach's Bay and we could pick them up from there.

They can park on other side as well and walk thru tunnel.
Lot's will close as they get full.
There are alot of different lots to park in.
Another idea is pick them up in freeport just north of there.

We get there before 10 and get set up but I watch Ocean Parkway get all backed up and it stays that way all day. The show is great but I've only seen it from the water. The air show is simulcast on the radio all day.

You might be able to pick them up at the ramp in Wantagh Park. You need to have a resident leisure pass to get in to the park, but not likely that they will be there at the booth checking that early in the morning.

We spent the day in Zach's Bay at the airshow. Amazed that my wife actually asked to go. Got there before 7:30 AM, and stayed later after it ended, and then went for a nice ride.
It was a pretty good day, lots of great spots to choose from when I got there, but it filled up fast. No shortage of crazies. It amazes me that people get there at noon and then try to squeeze in to some pretty tight spots. At that point, if I were that late, I think I would just drop the hook somewhere outside of Zachs.
The show was great, but not as good as any of the previous years. Seemed like there were a few less acts.
Perfect day with the exception of my windlass crapping out on me. Minor glitch though since I had my spare anchor with me.

I was there with the USCG Auxiliary keeping pleasure boats out of the box where the planes came in low in front of the "grandstand."

What little I saw was impressive.

The acts that were there were incredible as always, it just seemed like there were less of them. Maybe they didn't get all the practice time in on Friday because of the heavy fog all morning, or maybe the weather report scared some of them away.

Spent Saturday on the outside, as I done for the last 6 years. This year, myself and the admiral were amazed by the folks who blew by the anchored boats on the edges of the no boat zone, then proceeded through the box, only to get stopped by the marine patrol, coast guard, or auxiliary patrols. I mean, here we are, a bunch of anchored boats with nassau 5, coast guard, etc, right in front of us, and these yoyo's come through us on plane with their 40+ convertibles, only to get chased down by the nassau boat. I don't know about you, but when I see the nassau PD, I slow down to no wake speed no matter what, these idiots tried to blow through the no boat zone!

I was in Zachs on Sat. Was close to the ampitheatre, just south of the temp channel the CG setup (smart on there part). Man was it packed in though.

Here are a few pics.
