I'm looking at a 34 Mainship Motor Yacht, any advice in the initial inspection process. It doesn't seem Mainship made many of these, the layout is very nice and roomy for a 34. I just don't have a lot of knowledge concerning Mainship. I was wondering how they hold up and are they contructed well.
Any information would be great
Thanks
Joe

Excellent article on the history of the 34's of which there were over 900 built.

Our experience with the 34 is second hand. We have friends who rebuilt one from a wreck found on a beach in northern Georgian Bay. After 4 years and untold $$$ (including a repower after hydrolock destroyed the old perkins) they have a fine boat. Roomy for two with occasionial guests. Fairly well built (solid hull and cored decks). Plenty of effort went into rebedding all the deck hardware to prevent leaks. Theirs is the Mk1 with the short cockpit (5') and extended cabin top which I liked but boarding was from over the side as there was no swim platform or transom door (better for us older folks to get aboard). Personally I didn't like the galley down arrangement but it works. I believe, IIRC, the biggest bitch about these boats is the flybridge attachments & leaks. I'm sure the '96 model have overcome a lot of the earlier model shortcomings.

I have a 1996 Mainship 40 Sedan Bridge. I have had it for 7 seasons with no issues. For the price they are great boats.
