4160 I/O experiences

Hello regal owners,

We currently have a 3055 and are looking to move up in size. I would like to stay with I/O power, in part because of the Lake we boat in.

Any thoughts of this model or perhaps the 3560.

To my knowledge, the 4160 is not nor has it ever been available with IO's
 
I have found some 2000 and 2001 with I/O power. They have all been gas (8.1L), which is OK in part because we put about 50 hours a year on our boat.

i think its a misprint, either the boat has v drives or it is not a 4160. FWIW, the 4160 is significantly under powered with gas engines. i'm sure if it were configured with an I/O it would be more efficient, but the over all draft would increase. my guess is if there is an I/O 4160 on the market it was some one's repower as the genset is always installed aft of the motors on that boat.
 
none of those are actually I/O's. If you check out that big 6" diameter looking hole in the hull at the waterline at the back of the boat just before hitting the transom...that's the underwater exhaust for the inboard engines. Unfortunately the brokers appear to have not bothered to check the correct type of engine when they set up those listings.

The more I am looking the more I believe you are correct. I found a few listings as I/O that had a photo with some of the running gear showing. Each one was an IB, with prop pockets.

Best I can tell, the boat was always a V drive set up.

I wish the people placing the ads knew more about what they were attempting to sell.

Armed with this info if I go with the 4160 it will be diesel. No reason to go with gas engines unless mated to a B3 outdrive, or dual prop VP.
