Our overnight stay at Pier 39 worked out very well. The surge was practically unnoticeable and the sea lions, although sometimes noisy, didn't bother us much.
We left Sausalito mid morning and got to Pier 39 at 11 O'clock. We were assigned a guest slip on the west side of the marina where the sea lions are stationed. As I turned into the fairway where the slip is, I noticed immediately that the slip was totally surrounded by huge sleeping sea lions resting in the sun with no way for my son to step off the boat and handle the lines.
I decided to dock anyway and then to call the harbor master. Fortunately as soon as I enter the slip and touch gently the sides, the sea lions dove in the water; they didn't like us at all. You can beat the location of Pier 39 with everything at walking distance and good restaurants all around. My granddaughters especially had a great time watching the performers and visiting the aquarium.
On Sunday morning, after breakfast, we cruised to Angel Island where the girls had a great time playing on the beach and chasing the seagulls.
The weather was perfect, the bay was calm and the wind didn't pick up until Sunday afternoon right in time to make it harder to dock in my marina.

Thanks for the trip report. It has been years since I stayed there, but it is one trip, fondly remembered, waking up in the fog, looking up to see Coit Tower rising through t

It looks like you had a great time. Nice pics and pretty boat! I definitely need to add Pier 39 to my list of desired boating destinations. You're right in that there are plenty of attractions, restaurants and things to do around there.

Next on my list is Im taking a few coworkers to Sams Anchor Cafe on April 10th...after that..my wife and I will hopefully be able to do an overnighter at Treasure Island..Finally..taking a few other friends to opening day on the bay in late April..lots of boating ahead.

Thanks for the pics! Yes, you boat looks nice, but your two granddaughters are real show stoppers! Lucky you.

Arnold,

From your pics it looks like you were in the same slip as us when we were there in November. I agree that Pier 39 is a great destination! Thanks for the report.

I rarely notice the surge unless there is a storm. You can't beat the location, there is so much to do. The guest docks are only about a year old and right now there aren't that many sea lions. When there are hundreds of sea lions there you will definitely notice the smell on the West side. You picked a great weekend to visit. That is about as good as the weather gets in the city. They don't get alot of guests there so I doubt anyone will have problems finding a spot there if they want to visit.
