Yesterday (Sunday) I was on the water all day, out past Pt Arena and then a four bridge tour. Was just past Red Rock in the afternoon when another boat put a Ch 16 call to be on the watch for a whale in the area of Red Rock, heading up the river. We stopped the boat and watched for maybe twenty minutes, but no sign. Did anyone actually see a whale yesterday? How far up the river has one ever gone?

I believe Humphrey made it up past Rio Vista to Cache Slu before they got him turned around. If you are ever at the Rio Vista launch ramp area, there is a plaque commemorating the event!

I have seen whales in the vicinity of Red Rock several times. I don't think it is unusual unless they get past the San Pablo bay.

I think sometimes they manage to sneak in and out w/o it ever making the news. Humphry made such a splash because it was so unusual!

Toasty,

You did indeed cover a lot of ground. I assume you were on multiple boats??? Point Arena is a looooong way from any of the bridges on the SF Bay. Did you perhaps mean Point Bonita which is the point and lighthouse just northwest of the Golden Gate Bridge?

Dave,
I was thinking the same thing. He must be referring to Bonita.

Wow that was a huge mistake huh!? Indeed Bonita, unless I somehow equipped my boat with another two thousand horsepower. Even at that - Bonita - we did cover some ground - or water. Several friends aboard that had not gone out with me before, and a gorgeous day, made for a nice outing. And there is one and only one watering hole at the end of the day proximate to my marina where we can tie up the boat, so we capped the day with that adventure.

Sounds like a perfect day on the water! I'm looking forward to a cruise somewhere in the delta this weekend for lunch with friends..........
