AC/Shower Sump

Looking at installing a separate sump for my A/C unit. Current run for the drain line is quite long. Problem is that space is limited in the area of the AC unit. Has anyone fabricated a sump specifically for the A/C only? Wondering what type of pump and sealed housing vs open?

I built one from a small plastic shoebox size container, bought a small pump and float switch, also put in new overboard discharge. Worked really well in keeping bilge area dry.
