All I can say is that I am not impressed!

The floating docks are obviously state of the art (new marina) and many of the boats there are simply spectacular, 200'+,

Fuel is same price as Nassau ($5.30 today, plus 2.5% visa) dockage for a 70 footer is 4.50 a ft (probably cheaper for a smaller boat), pretty much the same as Atlantis

But... Like many if the high end Bahamian marinas, staff has an attitude... It s like because they work for nice marina and wear a fancy emerald new polo shirt, they suddenly become VIPs

And then they wanted to charge us $1200 just for our guests to get off the boat and be picked up to get to the airport! No that s no typo! $1200!!! They settled for a full night dockage... Most places I ve been to charge $1 to $2 a ft for pick up/drop off... They want $1200!!

But most importantly there is really nothing around... It s a very nice marina in the typical Bahamian construction site... They do have nice fences around the basin with ads for their real estate but nothing else that I could see. No shops, restaurant, or bar . Channel is deep,15 MLW but narrow and very shallow on the edge. Strong cross current too. I would hate to have to cross a big boat in there

Will try it again in 5 years,if they re still around. Staff mentioned they will likely become a private club marina closed to transients... Good luck with that...

OK, just found it on Google Map....yep, out of my price range. Also, outside of the marina and grounds I don't tbink
there is anything else around there....God knows, downtown Nassau is not so great an experience.

I will say that I have always had a great experience at Atlantis, wife likes it, I do perfer the outer islands, mainly in the Exumas

Nassau is really just a spot to get groceries or for people to fly in and out. It's a long ride to the airport with traffic but unfortunately Albany isn't much of an option

At least when at Atlantis or the other marinas, if you re there for a couple of days you can run the tender to Rose island or sand Lu cay (great snorkeling!) whereas here is nothing near Albany except maybe the west bay

Why do Chub Cay, Emerald Bay, Cape Eleuthera, Winding Bay, Orchid Bay, Grand Bahama Yacht Club, Matt Lowes Cay, all come to mind? The sad part of this is that there are probably 2 more for every one I mentioned. All failures.

If they are smart, they will keep their rates lower so that transients will migrate from the Exumas up to their place on their way back to Bimini and the States.
Instead, I am sure they will hope that the economy is going to boom and that the likes of Bill Gates will keep them going.

I think the problem with the Bahamas is that there is a mess of old money that has been suckered into developing by unscrupulous contractors. They sell the business as though there are scads of deep pockets out there to support the investment.

There isn't one new development that the locals don't view as a financial problem.

The other side of the coin I have a friend who runs a 110' and he goes there all the time with the boats owners and their guests and they like it. They like that it's quiet, close to the airport and the chef likes it because there are good stores for provisioning near by. My friend said the people there were nice and very helpful when needed. Perhaps you caught them on a bad day?

You are probably right about the private club thing. But on the other hand it has worked out well for Lyford.

As to development in the Bahamas, I'd say it's more like new money that seems to be clueless or lead astray as to how hard it is to get a development up and running there. Not to mention what happens if the ruling government changes before the development is up and running.
