I want to stay in the water as long as possible this year and was wondering if i could fill my fresh water system used for flushing with the pink antifreeze and keep using it.

?? If you do that you will have antireeze coming out your tap. .

You could use some cheap rot gut vodka !

The vodka (actually scotch) goes in the other tank that feeds the faucet. I'm woried that the pink stuff (or vodka) will kill the bugs in the holding tank or ruin the seals.

I suspect anything you use would kill the "good" bacteria in the tank if you're using a product like Odorlos.

I don't know about your head, but my manual head can be flushed by adding water directly to the bowl. If I wanted to, I could leave the water to the head turned off and just flush with water from a container.

But that would leave fresh water in the bowl and lines to freeze so I need to flush with anti-freeze.

I use a compressor to clear all my fresh water lines and use vodka in my fresh water tank. I don't run it thru the system, but works for the tank. If you use into the cooler weather, consider where you will get pumped out, since most local marinas close down their systems.

My suggestion would be to winterize the sanitation system in the conventional fashion and keep it layed up for the winter. Then pick up a small Porta-Potty for use during the colder weather. You can carry the tank portion of it off the boat, and take it home with you after the weekend, for emptying. That's the simplest way to do it, and it won't be terribly expensive. You can find the portable toilets on sale during the fall and winter for under $100.

Have you ever recorded the temperatures in the engine bay/area where tank water is located? I suspect that you will find that this below decks area stays above freezing far longer than you would imagine. Here in North Florida the only reason I ever drain the fresh water tank is to drain the lines located above deck. Actually I am not even worried about the lines as it is the fixtures that concern me.

First of all I want to protest any talk of winterization before September 1st, and even then it is to early!

My head draws fom my fresh water supply, and I winterize it with the pink stuff every year. No harm to the holding tank or the bacteria in it. I workon my boat all winter long, some times my wife goes with me. If she needs to use the head, I keep a couple of bottles of pink stuff on hand. Even if it were to kill the bacteria, it is not hot enough out for it cause any oder problems. If you are concerned about using oderless in the spring, fill your holding tank with fresh water and pumpout a couple of times.

I alos agree with gcolton, it is going to be pretty late in the year, before a boat in the water in MD has much of an issue.
