If I get the engine mounts fixed this weekend we will be headed over to Breezy point in great salt pond on Friday 8/31/07 for the long last weekend of summer. Anybody else headed over for frozen mud slides at Champlins??

Will pass you on my way out. There 8/27-8/31 and then over to Montauk for the weekend.

Champlins should be a zoo (more than usual) with the Christmas/New Year contests etc. Some boats go all out with the decorations.

We will be there. We hope to grab a mooring that we can escape the madness when we need some peace.

Grand Cru
36' Catalina

Hope to take a ride out but all dependant on the weather

Finally made it there for the first time via my own boat this weekend. Heavy fog from Pt Judith all the way to channel entrace at New Harbor. A little hairy but worth the trip. Sat on a mooring (Champlins was a zoo.. live music until 1am) Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to sleep there!

Have a great time.

I was debating between Block and Cuttyhunk. Is Block normally crazy on Labor Day weekend? I thought it might be, but then wondered, given that most schools have already started sessions.

I would say the craziness is concentrated to Champlins during the evenings. That is why we anchor way out. As stated, a nice place to visit then go away to peace and quite on the hook.

We were out at block last weekend. I have to say that I have not stayed at Champlains for quite a few years, but have stayed at both Basin and for the past few years at Paynes and it has been pretty quite at night. The only time you might hear some noise at Paynes is if you get stuck near Mahogany Shoals, which seems to churn on far into the night.

Champlins has their Christmas and New Year celebrations over Labor Day WE. Lots of decorated boats. Some really over the top for the cash prizes.

A lot of fun unless you are rafted to a party group. Last year was a washout.

I'm at the boat basin right now and all 3 marinas are not close to full. I suspect that will change by the end of the week.

FYI. I counted 4 open rental moorings at about 11:30 this morning. There were none by 3pm. Get here early if you want one.

Champlins is fine to stay at through the week. We have smaller children so we tend to go Sunday through Friday. We avoid the party weekends.

It's 9:20 and there are already several boats circling the rental moorings waiting for someone to leave.
