No offense to anyone, but I don't find watching half a million people watching a ball fall the most entertaining way to spend the first day of a new year.

Anybody in South Florida planning to spend the coming weekend on the water?

And if you have a TV in your boat, will you watch the ball fall anyway?

actually, it's ok but there is a road just west of Clewiston that heads north off 27 and join it further west, that's better... it's has 3 or 4 90 deg corners ! Snake road is nice but most is no passing and lots of traffic.

New YEars Eve was nice off bayside, not too crowded...we got there early, had dinner and went to NNH after the fireworks. SPent the day at NNH, we even swam with a manatee at the foot of lighthouse on the beach... well... we swam.. he just sat there like a good manatee does...

Pascal, I saw your boat anchored when I was heading to Bayside to pickup my crew. It was about 5:30pm and I saw no signs of movement onboard, so I didn't stop. I watched at Bayside too. Had a really hard time anchoring since it was windy. My anchor kept dragging. Almost caused a calamity with 3 raft up boats at one point. Anyhow, I finally got a good grip. Here are the final 23 seconds of the show at Bayside. Sounds much better in stereo.

5:30 ? may have been in the shower... where did you anchor, closer to bayside? holding is usually good where we were. i almost got hit by a 4 boat raft up. looks like some folks don't understand that one anchor might not be able to hold 4 boats !

nice clip...

I didn't get back out to anchor until about 11pm. I tried anchoring closer to the fireworks and moved (forwards) southwards in your direction, but settled in the middle somewhere. I had the same problem on July 4th. Strange enough I've never had that problem at Haulover or Sands Key. They there's more sand than silt on the sandbars. I think that might have something to do with it. My anchor might not be the best for silt. You're right. I did see a 3-boat raftup with only the middle boat anchored. And it was a big one.

BB,
Last year I saw many boats anchored just south of Bayside. The following morning when I was going back home, I only saw one boat or two almost in the middle of the canal. So, I assumed it's a place to just anchor for the fireworks and leave after.
Were you close to the fireworks platform?

Harry, it looks like people just move out after the fireworks and head in different directions. Last year I trecked it back to Intermarine in Ft Lauderdale afterwards. I went on the outside between Gov't Cut and Haulover; then on the ICW thereafter. Monday morning there were about 2 or 3 boats on the hook where we anchored to watch the fireworks. People anchor there overnight sometimes. I wasn't that close to the platform. Maybe a few hundred hards away. The cops pretty much keep you away from the platform and do a good job at keeping things in order.
