Anyone have experience with a Fortress anchor?

I had an old Danforth anchor but I bent the one fluke 190 deg in that storm the other day, it was a heavy steel anchor but rusty and old, so now I need a new one, thinking about the Fortress FX-11. Good in the GSB muck I suspect.

I had one as my "backup". ( Area: Mississippi River Delta. Mud. Sand, Clay, Grass )

Ifound it to be in the "Danforth category of pluses and minuses, better than any "danforth" clone, similar to a True Danforth.

Pluses: Light weight ( making for easier handling ), You could break it down and store it in pieces.

Minuses: Light weight ( tendency to "sail" on deployment, requires a chain "leader" )

I almost always used a plow type. A 22 lb Delta Fast Set. Heavy and miserable to handle, but fit the bow strut for self-launching and retrieval. Held well and reset very reliably, even in heavy grass. Ofetn held in areas where the bottom was too hard for Danforth. But is was HEAVY and massive.

I have the FX-55 on my 45" Commander. I have never had a drifting problem even with a raft up and squall come through. Everyone has their favorites, but my father would say," don't skimp on your anchor or dock lines". Get the next size and plenty of chain. Drop it and get a cocktail.

I used to have one as a backup anchor on my 300 Sundancer.
Primary was a Danforth 20H that stuck like glue.
It was good for a second anchor because it’s so light but I didn’t have any luck with it as a primary in Zack’s Bay or Hemlock Cove, even with 15’ of chain. Got rid of it when I sold that boat.

I have the fX32 as the main and a FX16 as backup.
I like them
Light and set and hold.
Great for Long Island MUD!

Fantastic anchors! Just make sure you deploy it slowly, or the chain and/or rope will drop down first, the anchor will land on the rode, and it rest on it and not the bottom
