Has anyone done any major electrical work or rewiring project on a 32 montego? I have a post started in the electrical section, but thought I might catch a Montego owner by chance that has done it before.

Kenny, do you know if Carver would still have any wiring diagrams or wire harness information left from 20 years ago? Doubtful, but worth a shot!

Thanks,

Jim

I doubt it Jim. Back then, everything was on paper which has long since been stored away...if not tossed out. Typically, Carver put a wiring diagram into their owners manuals for referrence. If you don't have your manual, maybe someone on here has one they can loan you for your needs. Are you getting rid of all the salt corroded wiring?

Jim, call Carver directly and speak to Mike Osmanski.

Kenny,

I am going to have someone look at it. The worst area is in the dash on the terminal ends. Other areas of the boat look ok, just haphazard and not going the right places in many instances. I think it's a bit over my head!

Hogan,

I will check my manual and see how extensive it is. I will try giving this guy a call as well.

Thanks VERY much!

Jim

I replaced all of my wiring last year after chasing bad connections too long. It seemed Carver used the same harness and just kept plugging enough together to make the length of each boat. I bought a roll of jacketed tinned wire with 12 14ga wire in it. I then ran it without any interruption from each engine to the bridge. For the the two Red wires to the ign switch I ran 12ga. This time I took the bridge off for transport it actually went back together faster because there wasn't any bad plug connections to chase down. My next project is to do the same from the 12 volt pane to the bridge.

Kenny/Ramsport,

Sent you a PM, saw there is no anchor now so I don't know if you will get it or not. Looked at that Montego in Marblehead today for you. Give me a shout and I will let you know what I found.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

I'm not sure on what you are planning to rewire but when we had our 3257 I spent one winter lay-up rewiring the dash. Basically, cleaned or replaced all connectors and replaced the switches and fuse block. Replaced the plastic section with teak and disassembled all the gauges so I could clean the faces, glass and paint the bezels. Tedious project but not difficult. Came out great. I posted pictures here when it was done but I don't know if I still have them.
