Atlantes freedom having trouble flushing

I just installed 2 Atlantes Freedom toilets this summer and I have a problem any time solids or even TP is flushed.

There is very little water retained in the bowl, and I was thinking of adding a button to activate the freshwater solenoid so I could 'prefill' the tank if needed.

How can I solve this or keep more water in the bowl?

I've answered this question a number of times already. Read the Owner's Manual - Raritan toilets, by themselves, DO NOT retain water in the bowl between flushes. To have the toilet retain water is a function of the external plumbing. It requires that a vented loop fitting be installed, with the top of the vented loop situated higher than the top of the toilet bowl. That way, water will be retained in the bowl. As an extra-cost option, Raritan offers a built-in vented loop fitting inside the Atlantes head, that will insure that water is retained in the bowl between flushes. It can be included with the head when it is originally ordered, or is also available as an aftermarket part (Raritan part # AHDA1W). As it is a relatively expensive option, most boat builders do not include it in their new boats.

Because the toilets are built for a host of different applications, there is no set design that is suitable for all applications. If you have a sport fisherman and are going 80 miles out into the Baltimore Canyon on a regular basis for gamefish, as an example, you don't want water being retained in the toilet, as it will slosh out onto the floor when the boat is bouncing around in the waves. But if you have a houseboat that rarely leaves the dock, and is never in rough waters, then you do want water being retained in the bowl between flushes. Sorry to say, there's no "one size fits all."

I can't recommend modifying the toilet, or it's wiring, as you hinted - at least not until the warranty period has expired. If the toilets are not installed and operated in accordance with factory recommendations, warranty coverage will not be honored should a problem develop. To wet the bowl prior to the toilet being used, simply flush it once before sitting down...

Sorry to bother you. Won't happen again.

Thanks for the ideas, though, the integrated vented loop might be just what I need. I already have a vented loop installed, but it's not high enough to retain enough water maybe.

Didn't mean to jump on you Cameron, but I sometimes get a little testy when I have to answer the same 6 questions over and over again for months and years. If you review some of the previous postings - you can look over the earlier postings, all the way back to January, 2006 - oftentimes your questions will be answered before you ask them. Again, I apologize - my having a bad day shouldn't be passsed along to everybody else. Cheers!

No problem.

I had read some of your solutions, but didn't think that it would solve things for me. I already had a vented loop in place from the last toilet. I adjusted the setting to allow the toilet to fill a few seconds after the flushing has stopped, and it still didn't work.

I didn't know about the internal vented loop. That looks like it might fit the bill perfectly. I will get one and install it this winter and see if it solves the problems.

I think the toilet itelf is very well built and has taken so many contingencies into consideration that I thought I may be missing something obvious.

I haven't had to unclog this toilet thankfully, but if I had to, it appears that it would be much easier than some other units to do. I recently had to help a friend unclog a tampon from a Jabsco deluxe flush. It wasn't pretty.

For general info, to unclog it, you remove the clear plastic cover from the rear of the head. Then you reach in with a pair of long-nose pliers and pull out whatever is caught in the ring-shaped passageway just behind the "star wheel" (cutter blade). Then replace the clear plastic cover, seal is reuseable. Hardest part of the whole job is getting the toilet pulled out from the wall.
