Is there a sealant that can be used on the barb fittings? Or is this not recommended? I have a drip coming from one (new hose and new fitting) and was wondering.

The hose should seal on the fitting with no sealant. Of course the fitting should be the correct size for the hose. Depending on the function of plumbing double clamping is a good idea but should not be needed to seal.

What KinCal said.

However, sometimes the fitting will have a little mold flash or other additional material at the mold parting line that makes it irregular and difficult for the hose to seal. In that sort of situation, you can probably get away by using silicone caulk and tightening the clamps as tight as practical. Then allow time for the sealant to cure (min. 4 hours), before passing any water through the hose.

Or, swap the fitting out, with a different one...
