barnalce removal

I still have white spots from barnacles that were on mmy outdrive from last year. is there any chemicals out there to make removal easier. Thanks

1.
a) Avoid getting barnacles.

2.
a) power wash at an angle to remove shells.
b) Use Muriatic Acid ( get it at a big box store in the pool section ). This is another name for Hydrochloric Acid. It IS DANGEROUS. Wear all proper acid handling gear to protect your entire body, esp. eyes. I'd recommend breathing protection as well. ( Some people work with out it. I do not. )
c) Rinse throughly with fresh water ( at this point, both the boat and you.)
d) Use scraper.
e) Use Lime Away or equivalent to get the remainder.

yesterday I decided I could not look at the slime growing at the waterline anymore on my 40 footer....it has not been running since a motor is down. I put on the scuba gear and dove down and four hours an two tanks of air later I am still not done. The bttom looks great now but the running gear is a nightmare....since it has arnesons there are two shafts housings, rubber boots for the drive pivot points, 3 large rams for trim and steer and their hoses plus it has two large trim tabs and their rams. I probably have another hour at least today....should have hired a diver

I have read that it's important to remove any bottom growth (usually by powerwashing) as soon as the boat is hauled and before anything can dry on the hull or running gear.

Couldn't prove it by me but it sounds reasonable.

We've had some luck with products like "CLR". They are designed to remove calcium, lime and/or rust. Active ingredient is an acid. Since the shells are calcium, it makes sense this should work. But it's not easy.
