Hello Hudsonians- question for you. I've hiked through bear mountain state park several times back in the day from my time on the Appalachian Trail. I am curious where the nearest boating facilities are to bear mtn on the hudson? If someone wanted to stop over there via boat and explore the park/lodge/surrounding mountains, where would one dock and how could one get to say the lodge from that marina? I don't believe the park has it's own marina??? From the aerials on google earth it looks like haverstraw is the closest but it also looks like there is a smaller marina just upriver and on the same side as haverstraw as well???

Thanks!

Good question. Nothing really "local" to bear mountain. haverstraw/Stony point area is probably the closest (15 minute car ride). The next marina up on that side of the river is Cornwall I believe.

There is a small marina just south of West Point, but I do not know the name of it. However I am sure someone will know it.

There are several marinas in Stony Point, which is just north of Haverstraw. The Garrison Yacht club is just across the river from Bear Mountain, not sure if they take transients.

If you just want to go for a day hike , anchor just north of Iona island and take the dinghy to the bear mtn. dock you can tie up your dink there for the day for free.
Can't get much closer than that, I took my 4 year old god daughter to the zoo that way . It was just a short walk up the hill and you are there.
The dink dock is on the side of the main dock, just don't tie up on the main dock, there is also plenty of room on the wall north of the main dock also, have a good hike. -Jon-

BTW you may want to bring a cable and a lock for the dingy, cause city kids get bused up there frequently and may get the idea of untieing your lines,so a lock can't hurt just in case ;)

Thanks all! I have great memories of walking through NY and always enjoyed crossing the bear mtn bridge. In the event I actually do the great loop or a portion of it at some point in time- would be great to stop there and hike around some more but with the wife and kids!!!
