Diane Shipway passed away last month. Sadly, because I knew of her illness, I wasn't shocked (but was very sad) when I got the phone call from one of my buddy's on B.I. Diane was a fighter and even kept her drive going with various projects that she was involved with up until recently. I had the pleasure (and honor) of meeting her back in the early 80's in connection with the Frozen Bun Run and every time that I would see her after that, she would always chat with me and share another one of her fine Delta "war stories".
Diane started the first Vessel Assist on the Island. If you were stranded in the Delta, either her or Herb with Blackfin Towing would be there to save the day.
Shipway Marine was as respected on the Island as much as Chuck's Delta Sportsman and Frank at Frank's Marina. Diane will go down in history as one of the best assets that the Island (and the Delta) has ever had.
If you recall a thread on this forum earlier this year about the chinese junk that was removed from Marine Emporium and taken to Taiwan, Diane was right there in the middle of it.
There was a nice article in the CoCo Times about Diane. The article could have filled up an entire page of the paper and still wouldn't have covered everything that she did and accomplished for the Island.
Here's the link to the article:

RIP Diane, you will be missed.
