Anybody try the "Big Orange Filter" for their holding tank?

They appear to be only a larger version of the inline filter. There is an RO who mentioned one favorably on BE. The google search below the thread will not bring it up though.

$125 seems steep considering the same thing could be built for less than 25 dollars.

Problems?

I thought you put in a tank rinser last year.

No, but I was wondering since it appears to be simple to service.

One advertised feature is a bypass valve which prevents tank collapse if using an overambitious pumpout facility.

A regular Google search for big orange filter will bring it right up. I'd post it here, but being a relative newcomer, I'm not clear on whether it's against Les' rules.

Based on viewing their www, it's definitely easier to service. Granted that ease of service is 30% more costly than a cartridge based on CA to US exchange rates.

I do like the automatic by-pass valve. I think I would be leary of screwing it into my holding tank though. If one is not in the DIY mood it's a great idea.

My 2 cents.

Nothing can be easier than the homemade filter on my holding tank. Loosen two hose clamps, remove the filter, open the top and pour out the charcoal, pour new in and screw the top on then re-install the filter, tighten the two hose clamps.

Easier said than seen....

Pix please.

Screwing the BO into the top of the tank is only one mounting option. It could be epoxied on or mounted elsewhere. They just recommend that the hose run be as short as possible.

It's better just to keep that smell from being in the tank in the first place. With enough O2 in there, the good little guys grow, and they don't stink. More air and some Raritan KO does the trick.
