Anyone see a 30+ flybridge style boat that's been drifting all over the place in weehawkin cove? Its right behind the Hudson tea building. I've been watching it drift all over for the last 3 weeks but Friday morning it looked like it was on the rocks tilted over. Later on my way home I saw it floating again during high tide.

Wonder where it will be tomorrow morning. It was getting close to drifting out into the river.

I would say a call to the Coast Guard identifying it's location would be appropriate. They should have it removed before it becomes a hazard to the waterways.

If you see a boat drifting with noone on it, why wouldn't you call someone or try and board it and drop the anchor?
Watching it does no good to help the owner or other boaters!

I did...i also stopped on way home from work to see if i could get to it from land but it was too far.

I don't know that boarding someone else's boat to try to deploy and anchor is the correct course of action. Calling the PD or CG would be much better.

I called the marina next door and they said all the boats that are anchored there are abandoned.

Hoboken Police were aware of it and passed it to the NJ state police 2 days ago.

I would agree with you Mike, but if I saw someone's boat in danger of hitting rocks or crashing into another boat, I think I would attempt it. I would want someone to do that for mine.

Of course first call is to police or CG.

Years ago I saw a sailboat on the rocks while on the train in the morning. I called SeaTow, they said they would contact the local police and USCG and maybe go have a look if in the area.

Hold the phone here Mike, if someone sees a boat drifting towards rocks and puts a line on it, I believe there are rights of salvage. Of course if it's a POS, you can get stuck with disposal costs?

Any boat moored/anchored there for over 7 days is considered abandoned and can be claimed following the correct procedure. From what i read in NJ you just have to try to contact the owner for 30 days and place a local add saying that if its not removed that you will file for title. (im sure there is a little more to it)

There is currently about 8 boats there, mostly sail boats. They dont look too bad either.

They still havent done anything with this boat.
