So I have a dilemma that I need help with. I have a boat that I purchased new in 2003 and for one reason or another I have not taken the time to actually put the name of the boat on the boat (I know I have gotten away with it for 8 years though). It's documented so it has a name but it's never been installed let alone even purchased a sticker for it. It does though have a small ship carpet runner that I bought and it does have the name of the boat.

So the question is for us superstitious persons what do I do? Go through the de naming ceremony and then rename? Do I just change the documentation records and slap on the new name for the first time? Hmmmmm........

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it will make you feel better, you can always google the subject. There will be hours of suggestions on how to do the re-naming ceremony.

Personally, I would just name it and enjoy it, but hey, that is just me.

The bottom line is that either way, it is a boat and it will break down. [}}:-|>>] MOst folks use the re-naming ceremony for a good excuse for a party. [:-jump2]

Enjoy!

Most of my boats seemed to have named themselves. I just parked our new C Dory and stepped out to admire it when a (rare) Kingfisher bird flew by. So, the boat was the Kingfisher.

Another time, a ball of Monarch butterflies flew into the boat. It was really odd. Later, we named the boat the Mariposa.

My newest boat hasn't tipped what it's name is. I'm watching.

Boat renaming is like other nautical superstitions. The old salts will only coil their lines clock wise, to match the path of the stars. The Greeks paint eyes on their boats, so the boat can see where it's going.

Like Monterey, I named my first Butterfly because the day I first launched her, a pure white butterfly came into the boat and "kissed" her.

I didn't want "Butterfly 2" for my second boat, so I named her "Flutterby"........ Now she is called the "Dora Dee". I don't think they did a renaming ceremony though. got my fingers crossed!
