Hi, I have a friend who bought a sailboat in Miami. The boat is docked in Dinner Key and needs a little work done (bottom paint, through hull replacement, lights on the mast, etc.). Do anyone know of someone that does good boat work in the Miami area?
thanks

If he is from your area and will be keeping it up there than I would say the best thing to do is bring it up there. If he wants to work on it himself than I would say go to Fort Pierce or there are some good places in Stuart.
If is planning on staying in Miami I will do some asking around for you but like with all these places if you are not on top of things and let them run the show you WILL get screwed.

Hi, my friend lives in Miami and the boat will be docked at Dinner Key. He is not planning to do the work himself since he is fairly new to boating. If he was going to move the boat up North I could help him with contacts in the Palm Beach-Jupiter area. Perhaps Pascal has a suggestion.
thanks

The very best thing you can do for your friend is help him with keeping things under tight control as it sounds like he will be a prime candidate to getting ripped off. There are plenty of yards on the Miami river, does he speak spanish?

Last week CAY Marine on Miami river was recommended to me by captain across slip from me. Had his bottom painted and a few mechanical repairs done. Was happy with results but don't know the costs.
There is a yard and haul out next to Dinner at Grove that uses subs as I understand. Have no feedback.

what size boat? i've used Grove Harbor a few times (ext to DKM) they're reasonable and do good work. $35 a foot for haul out, block, paint and launch. that's where we've been doing bottom paint on charmer.

a fried of mine has used CAY, sticker shock every time...

for a smaller boat, Scottys (between DKM ad GH) is a option.

otherwise, norseman on the river, next to CAY is a good reputable yard.

but like everything else, in Miami or elsewhere, you have to be there, watch the work and check the hours billed.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. The boat is a 31 Watkins. We talked to Grove Harbor and they were willing to haul him but they wanted him to sign a waiver for any damage they may do hauling out. We are going to check out Norseman in the river.

I am sorry, it was not Grove Harbor but the yard next to Scotty that required the waiver.

I have no idea about the billing but many of my customers have used Hurricane Cove for DIY. I've worked on several customers' boats there and it's been a pleasant experience without interference and over-regulation from management.

Scotty's doesnt have a travel lift, just forklifts which may be was they wanted a waiver...

We have been talking to Grove Harbor: $35 a foot as Pascal mentioned, unfortunately their travel lft is broken. My friend will probably wait for them to fix it and then haul out there.

It was working last week before I left, shouldnt be long before they fix it, they use it all the time
