I'm an "old school" Sea Ray big boat owner from back in the days of Mildred still being a sugar-beet field, not some Johnny-come-lately, and can tell you first hand that the "rep" that some Sea Ray owners as well as some Disco Bay Yacht Club members have is VERY well deserved.

I've owned 5 Sea Ray's up to 39' so far (and a few Bayliner's just for balance, hehe) as well as a fleet of other brands and belonged to the original NorCal S/R Club, the Delta S/R Club and the DBYC.

I bailed out of those two clubs (not the Delta S/R club, they were shuttered) because of some of the blow-hard members that continually chose to blast through the Delta slu's with no regard what-so-ever to their wakes and the damage and/or potential threats to human life those wakes presented.

In 40 years of boating the Delta, I have NEVER been shouted at over my wake or any other rude/dangerous condition because I didn't do that. Period.

I couldn't keep track of how many times during a "cruise-in" with the NorCal group or the DBYC (the members of the Delta S/R group were awesome and obeyed all laws as well as common sense) that the lead boats would get the middle finger salute from small skiffs that were at anchor (some with kids on board!) or by harbormasters as they'd pass their docks leaving a huge wake despite the "no wake" signage.

I finally had had enough of that BS and would travel on our own to each destination.

But even that wasn't far enough away from the BS for us...

Once at the docks or raft-up, the BS would really get to flowing! Again, not by everyone, but by a select few that felt they had everyone elses attention (and admiration!).

That all resulted in too much nonsense for me.

As someone else mentioned, Marine Max catered to some of those BS'ers and loved every minute (and every dollar) of it!

You might not be able to pick your relatives or your neighbors, but you can certainly pick your boating buddy's!
 
I've never owned a SeaRay, and have never bought anything from Marine Max. But I know that they started 2008 with over $500,000,000 lined up to finance boat sales. Although they had lined up tons of bank, no one could qualify for any of it. Things didn't get any better this year.

I read in yesterdays paper that the private avation business is doing well. What's to keep those Marine Max salesmen from selling some flying ships? Probably some dumb little tests...
 
Speaking of the DBYC folks who thought they owned Mildred Isl. I was spending weekends there when only fishing boats would dare go inside. After the DBYC crowd "discovered" it, they were so obnoxious, I finally stopped going there. I've only been back twice in the 6 yrs and didn't stay.

One July 4th friends and I were rafter together near the south end. There were lots and lot of boats of all sizes anchored around us. Some stupid idiot in a 28' Bayliner flybridge came roaring through the opening at full throttle and made a sweeping semi circle. When he saw the tops of the tree orchard, he swung in a wide sweep to go further north. All of those anchored boats, even the really big ones, rocked and rolled. Horns tooted, fingers were raised in salute. But he just going at full throttle. I wrenched my back; one of my friends almost broke her leg. We were so disgusted, we hauled anchor and returned to our slips.
 
I also was on the delta before the levee broke and mother nature took back what once was hers.
I hate what DBYC and Marine Max have done to our sport. I lived in DB 15 years,loved the place and tolerated the people. Whent into Marine Max twice to look at boats and was so poorly treated wouldnt ever return. I am now in Florida two blocks from a MM dealer and wouldt stop because of the Embarcadero store. I have loved this sport since I was a child and have met some great people in it. But all of them were in it because they loved it not for ststus.
