Boat show this weekend - Jack London Sq

We bought the advance tickets on line and saved two bucks per ticket. Couldn't find any freebies anywhere. I hope the show is better than last years.

Same as last year. The free show in Feb(March)? in Alameda was a lot better for boats, this was better for vendors.

Agree. Lots of sailboats, a handfull of powerboats.

Good boat show. Obama mist be doin his job because the economy is back with 10 times more vendors than in recent years. Not the best show to see power boats however. Mostly sail however I enjoyed looking at sailboats too.

I learned that faux teak for the cockpit is probably out of my budget. After hearing $85 per sf née cockpit garlic sounds pretty good. Great deals on mustang auto inflate pfds.

Music and food vendors too. Good show.

No kidding? The feel of despair in the air has left for most. Lots of companies hiring, lots of people working, business was definitely going on at the boat show. Such a different feeling from a few years past.

Unemployment in CA remains at 12%. Yup, I give Obama credit!

People with money left are just trying to spend it before it is taken in tax.

good to here the show is better than in the last few years. I went the first time in 2003 and thought it was a pretty good show. It kept declining after that I the last time I went, 2009 it wasn't worth the parking cost.

Obviously you have a government job. Businesses are hiring alright. It's called outsourcing.

My Boat broker informed me that there were more vendors this year because "Sail America" sponsored it.

I did see people buying from the vendors but did not hear one person talking price or dealing with the brokers. The last few years the show was poor but I kept hearing people working deals because they wanted to go cruising. We are looking at sailboats and the broker was nice as it was our second trip around sailboats this year trying to figure out what we might want. However, I told her that I have to wait and see about June of this year. I could be unemployed by then. While very lucky to have a job... this recovery that is not happening... there is not much on the horizon for us none government construction industry folks. With no manufacturing or building in California (most of the U.S.) that removes a lot from the jobs front. I heard it was like the military effort. For every one person fighting you had 8-10 supporting the fighter. Construction is like that for every one person swinging a hammer, turning a wrench or screwdriver, there are many in the delivery of the project (architect, engineer, supplier, equipment, insurance, ect) before the construction worker steps foot on the job site.

Same for the boat builder - if they still make the boat here in the U.S.A. - otherwise people are just making the problem worse. Funny how people complain about the economic and they drive their imported car to their imported boat that is stocked up with cheap stuff from Walmart and West Marine that came from China using the oil we are fighting a war(s) over.

Perhaps we can find an end to this madness when they stop teaching kids to pass a test and start teaching them to think??? We have to teach the youth because many of the older folks caused these problems and refuse to fix them; but rather keep buying from China and demanding lower price that require off-shoring jobs. And do get on that we are taxed too much - from what the news reported both corporations and people are paying less now then back when Reagen was President. Yes, I am on the verge of unemployment BUT have made more per year and paid less in taxes than in the last 20 years!

So, its time to visit boat shows and escape. Think about fishing and floating on the hook. Right? What can one person do to effect change?
