I just spent 8 days in Viet Nam, mainly in Hanoi, Danang and Hoi An and I can tell you fishing is supreme. We were on several big rivers and the type of fishing ran the gamut from very, very few rods and reals (almost none) to nets and traps of all kinds. Most of the boats were very small wooden, dug out type craft either rowed or run off what appeared to be one cylinder diesel engines that sounded much like to boat in The African Queen. There were also a million round, tub like crafts that were used in various ways. They were made out of reeds and then were epoxyed or glassed on the outsides. They used one oar to get around with. Everything that came out of the river was eaten or used in some way and the markets on the streets were jammed with every kind of fish, crab, shrimp and eel under the sun. The people were very nice, the country beautiful and the prices unbelievabley cheap. The river areas reminded me of the delta in many ways. An interesting trip for those who might be interested and no, I wasn't there during the unpleasantries of the early seventies.
