Boating Season Has Begun!

Tell me about it Butch , My excavator burns about 70 gallon$ per day . Lets hope the fuel trend takes a turn for the better soon,
it's hitting us all in the wallet one way or another. Jon

Hey Mike... Do you have room at your anchorage this year for Vacation.

If we manage fuel correctly, we should have enough for vacation.
I think I can get to bowline at in 10 minutes. I should only burn 5 gls. Stay a week and only use my generator when needed.

We can order out from Planet Wings. Take the dink to shore and walk to the Brick Yard Brewery. We can fish and live off the land. Oh and have Warren bring us fish, lobster and tuna.
 
That's what I was told yesterday while I was filling up. Whats really scary is the summer increase has not hit us yet..
 
Every year I fill up when we haul, and refer to it as my oil futures contract... It's real bad this year. We're probably going to stall our enclosure until the fall as a result.
 
I have a bad feeling about the summer increase this year too, never understood that or , why we have to pay so much more than land prices anyway
Is fuel taxed higher on the water or something...

No - Its called captive audience. Actually the gas should be cheaper on land due to no over the road tax.
 
rob , I do not understand what you mean ? Diesel fuel is taxed more for (road fuel)as opposed to off road fuel, but

there is NO road tax added on gas. I was trying to figure out if say : the same truck & co. delivers to a land gas station and also delivers to the marina , why the price difference is much more at the marina.I wouldn't want to think it boils down to marinas bieng greedy,at least I hope not but I DON'T HAVE A CLUE on that one.

If what you meant by "its called captive audience" was :well they got-us and there is nothing we can do about it,I understand that,just thought there might be another reason besides that.

I don't have a diesel boat , but always thought pleasure boat fuel would not be taxed with the (road tax) like comm. trucks ?

I have a gas boat as well. There is a road tax that is applied to gas you use in your car. I have never done it but some say you can write off some of the tax you pay on gas for your boat sine its not used on the road.
 
Did not know that Rob but i guess that shouldn't suprize me the way they tax us on just about everything else :)
As i'm sure you know I was just joking about the panco thing above ( never -ever had a fuel related problem there)& that is where I always top off, but if the prices get much higher It might be worth it for me to trailer to the gas station to try and save a buck even though its a pain in the butt.

THE BOAT IS LAUNCHED AND FLOATING!

Now if I did not have a DR's appointment I could go pick her up and drive her over to my marina. Have to wait until tomorrow.

I know it's last minute but , we were planning a day trip with a few friends aboard around Manhattan tomorrow should be in the mid 70's & nice anyone want to join us ? Plan on leaving around 9 0r 10 from Stony Point... Jon

People use their boats in different ways. Some enjoy just being on their boats at the marina and socializing with their dockmates and that is just fine. They'll go out when they want to. Others take their boats out more often, but maybe only for a short run and/or to anchor up for the afternoon, that is fine also. Still others are always on the go, perhaps like yourself, and need to be cruising frequently, again, whatever floats your boat. My point is that we each enjoy our boats in our own ways. Enjoy YOUR boat and YOUR cruising time the way you wish and stop worrying about the rest of us.
 
Hope you don't take my teasing seriously , just messing around so take it easy believe me I'm not worried aboout ya , especially if you can't take a joke . Spun a prop a few miles below the cross Bronx cam back at about 5 knts. the whole way took about 6 hrs. but made it at least we had the tide with us oh well stuff happens .hope everyone had a good day Jon
 
Took a ride up past West Point today, not too many boats out on the river. Gorgeous day, especially after yesterdays nasty weather.
 
Hogan what happend to the pole after it was struck did it blast it into a million pieces or what? we saw a few big bolts and booms around , it was pretty scary yesterday, glad to hear you guys had a nice day
we gave a few shouts on 68-69 for you and "the Gov " to say hi but no response. I only have a hand held right now my raido crapped out over the winter I don't think it has good range either

My turn. A prudent captain, regardless of experience, and especially with guests aboard, would not cruise around New York harbor, the East River and the Harlem River with just a handheld VHF and, by your own admission, of questionable range.
