I need advice on a Bravo III to Bravo II conversion.

Over the off season, I bought a 2001 Bayliner 2655 with a Bravo III and like so many the outdrive has fallen victim to heavy corrosion. I have read many posts about this problem and plan on adding a second Mercathode controller, switching to magnesium anodes, etc., however I realize that a large number of B-III owners have eventually had to replace their B-III even when they've done everything Merc's recommended.

Therefore, my plan is to use the Bravo III until it's eaten through and then replacing it with a remanufactured Bravo II with an aluminum prop. I am wondering if anyone has made or has thoughts about making this switch and what result we may expect as far as differences in efficiency and performance. My wife and I don't go WOT but we will be doing some 50+ mile cruises on Lake Michigan so we're most interested in how it will cruise and fuel burn differences for a 6500lb boat with a 5.7L/250HP Merc (I think currently with 2.20:1 gearing). Also, any information on the conversion itself as far as prop suggestions, complications, correct gear ration (do I choose same gear as current), general advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
