... but as fate would have it, I am a couple of months away from the expiration of my current employment situation.
Given the stark economic conditions I feel that I'll have to consider all employment offers, even those that may require relocation to places where I suspect it would not be cost effective to take the boat.
We live in NC, the boat is in Western Virginia. Likely relocation destinations look like Sarasota, Fl, Rochester, Mn, or maybe just north of Dallas/FW, Tx.

First, can anyone make a logical argument to support moving the boat (again... just brought it to Va from Md a few months ago) to any of those locations, as opposed to selling and buying a different boat when we get settled? I should mention that I have no interest in taking this boat in the Gulf or any Gator infested lakes in Fl. I think her fate is sealed if we move to Fl.

If not, maybe you know someone that might have an interest in a nice '86 model 3607 with twin Crusader 350s. Let me know if you do. There are pics on page 3 (I think) of the Carver pictures thread with the username "rjcress".

Geez, just typing this is surreal, as I've been chomping at the bit to get out and enjoy the boat this summer. I have a stack of parts waiting for spring to complete a few projects before "fun" season starts (reseal the upper helm hynautic pump, install a new port light, replace a sensor on the genset)... now I'm actually having trouble figuring out how I can still own and use it when summer gets here.

While I keep trying to focus on what is REALLY important (wife, kids, food, shelter, etc.), I can actually see myself downsizing the house before we consider selling the boat. Not sure that the Admiral will agree though.

Sorry to ramble, and truely sorry to post something so gloomy and depressing.

Jeff:
Sorry to hear of your job situation...I, as have most, been in that situation and we, as you will survive OK...Seems gloomy at first, but I hope things work out for you, as I'm sure they will...

Your boat pics are an page 2...If selling do you have any idea what you would be asking?...I may be interested...

Good Luck with your situation, Jeff...

What field are you in? Are there any opportunities for you in NY? I might be able to pass your resume around in my travels.

Sorry to hear about the boat situation - maybe things will work out so you can keep it - but if not, you're going about it the right way...

I suggest listing the boat now to see if there is anyone in your area that happens to want your boat. If it doesn’t sell then you will have more data to use to make your decision.

Thanks Pete.
I work with phramaceutical sales and marketing management on strategy, budgeting, goal setting, operations, analysis, etc. I'll send my resume along in case you have any contacts that may be able to use my services. [edit: silly me. I can't email b/c I'm not a subscriber].

Who knows, it could work out that I am able to find a job closer to the lake and actually get to use the boat more (I can dream, right?).

Hi sorry to hear about your delema. If you choose Rochester the boating is awesome in the 1000 islands Good luck with both a job and relocation

If you are coming to MN bring your stupid hat, we just elected Al Franken.....Even though Rochester MN is a little bit from the river you could head straight over to Winona or LaCrosse area and it makes for some beautiful boating. If you head up this way let us know. If you need any info on MN let me know and I will try to help you find it out.

Hang in there, all will work out, you have your health, family and most important your boat:)Selling or moving your boat, tough decesion. The used boat market is in the crapper, seems you can't give them away. On a postive note, if you give yours away, you can steal another one, so when the day is done you should be ok.

You don't want to move to NY, DFW, would be my first choice out of the areas you listed.

Best of Luck

Walter

if you're a boater, you've already made one illogical decision. if you transported your boat to your current location, that's two. i think boaters are allowed 300, so any decision you make will turn out ok. btw, i moved my boat from west coast to east coast and our long term plans call for retiring in europe. the wife already knows the boat's coming too.

Amen!
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to remind me of this. :^}

Thanks to everyone that has provided encouragement and feedback. I have a small army of recruiters beating the bushes in the local area. With any luck, something good will turn up and I'll have been worrying for nothing.

As a few have mentioned, the MN area is really interesting to me, but I suspect I'd want to downsize to something trailerable so we could explore the different lakes around. Plus, when boating is out of season, hockey is in season. To me, that's a plus.

How ever this works out I know a few things:
-there are a lot of nice people out there
-we've had a BLAST on our boat and can't wait to make more great memories with the kids
-we could always sell the house and live on the boat if we have to. not for long... it is only 36ft. But in a pinch, it could work.

rjcress - I live in the DFW area of Texas. There are a LOT of lakes here - if you are going to be North of the DFW area then I'd suggest Texoma...it's quite a large lake.

Have you applied at local hospitals? They may be able to use your skill set/knowledge and that is one of the few growth areas in jobs right now.

Whatever is best will work out for you, your family and your boat!
