A friend of a friend is borrowing a 42'er for a fund raising event. The owner will be out of town so they are looking to hire someone for the day

A trip from Croton to Manhattan, pick up guests, ride around, drop them back and go home. I'm guessing 6-8 hours.

If anyone here is interested, please drop me an email.

Thanks - Chris

Does the guy loaning the boat have proper insurance to 'loan' his boat out????

Not my cup of tea to have people on my boat without me being there to supervise.

Interesting question. I assume a hired captain would know the insurance requirenents.

I'm with you though but these guys are good friends.

whoever is borrowing the boat better check the insurance policy to make sure whoever drives the boat is covered... a "pro" should be but the insurance company may require advance notification and a copy of his license, although it's only a 42 footer.

also need to make sure that this fund raiser doesn't mean the "guest" aren't considered paid passengers, in that case, you need a master not jsut a six pack if over 6 passengers. And if it considered to be paid passengers, they cant' be over 12 on a non inspected vessel.

sounds like a grey deal to me, better check these details ahead of time.

more then insurance requirements. Is there a fee being charged for the event. If so is the boat an "inspected vessel", does the vessel meet all coast guard requirements?

I would not want to risk my license on this venture.

You guys are very thorough. I'm not sure what the status of the "fund raiser" is, it could be a simple meet and great, I doubt they are paying to go on the boat as it is a serious "maybe" at this time.

Staying on topic, I offered to take the boat for a spin across the river one evening. There would be no money exchanging hands and I would have the permission of the owner and the owner might join us. What would be the status of us borrowing a boat? I would be no more than a designated driver.

I assume with the owner present, there's zero issue. What if he allowed his friends to simply enjoy themselves with me as captain?

PS - for the record, I'm VERY hesitant to do this as per the responsibility issue, I'd rather take MY boat so it probably won't happen.
