I would like to convert my 17 foot whaler to a center console. Any recommendations for shop that does this work?

The easy part of glassing in the console can be done at any fiberglass repair shop www.raybomarine.com in Lindenhurst is an excellent choice. The harder part of running the cables so you don't trip over them is probably something Rob could help you with also.

If you send your Hull ID/Serial Number to Whaler, they will send you a copy of the hull drawings that show the location of all the wood below the deck and in the sides. You simply purchase a console (you can find OEM consoles for sale) and install it with Stainless fastners, no glass work required. Be sure and bed everything well and bed the fastners. There is a wiring race/tunnel on the centerline that ends at the bilge sump at the transom and ends at the centerline about amidships. All of your wiring, controls, steering, ETC. run through it, just use a small nylon line as messenger to pull everything through. Very simple procedure that's maybe two days work at the most. Check out Continuous Wave dot Com for everything Whaler.
