The Admiral and I are thinking aboutheading up to Chestertown to attend the "Downrigging" event with all the Tall Ships. Never anchored out on the Chester river at Chestertown so I wonder what the holding is like there? I understand that there is some tidal current changes but does anyone here have any input on this anchorage? I have seen plenty of boats anchored there in the past. Appreciate any and all comments. Regards, BigGrin :)

We are also researching the same weekend trip. No anchoring experience but one of our guides claims a danforth won't hold and that a plow anchor is required. I carry 2 danforths the marina is full. :(

Anchored there in 2005 just past the marina. Used a CQR and had no problems in muddy bottom. Current was not a factor. Will say that at that time really no place to land a dingy easily. Tried the dingy dock but no ladder to get to street level. Had to go around the tall ship and tie to the bulkhead in order to get ashore.

Some beautiful classic homes and nice main street.

We'll be there Friday and Saturday but not via the water as we are still boatless. Staying at the HI Express.

Thanks everyone, will be going anyway. Usually no problem with my Kingston Plow w/Chain Rode. Will drop hook with the crowd and dink into town. Should be a good time.

Just a footnote on the Downrigging Weekend. I see MikeeH posted some nice photo's on the main board from his visit. (My boat is actually the Catamaran anchored way out in the river in the background of his first photo). Overall the event was terrific. Friday they had a Steam Powered Caliope(?) that played incredible music that could be heard all over town. Fireworks on Friday eve was a treat. Did the sail on the Schooner Virginia and just watching those tall ships manuever is interesting to say the least. By the way, anchoring in the Chester River proved to be no problem and I saw nobody draging any anchors or experience any anchor related issues. I would highly recomend this event to anyone for next year. Just my 2 cents...
