This may be old news, but I did not see a thread on it. I have not read the Clean Boating Act yet (do we get crayons when we read it?) ... here is Senator Boxer's email to me. It arrived a few minutes ago. BTW, funny thing about our Federal Gov't now, as well as some civilian companies......they ask if you are in the military or retired and if so, what was your rank. I was a Sgt for 4 years, then got my degree and went back in. How she knew I was a Major is a puzzle to me. I never used my rank in di

Dear Mr. Loving:

Since you previously wrote to me in support of the Clean Boating Act of 2007 (S.2766), I wanted to share some good news with you about this legislation.

I am pleased to inform you that Congress has passed the Clean Boating Act, and it was sig ned into law on July 29, 2008.

As I noted in my previous letter to you, I proudly joined Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) in introducing this bill to establish measures that ensure the protection of water quality while minimizing any burdens for recreational boa ters under the Clean Water Act.

As you know, the Clean Boating Act makes it clear that recreational boaters will not have to get a permit under the Clean Water Act, while also requiring the Environmental Protection Agency and the Coast Guard to develop management practices, outside of any permitting programs, to assist boaters in minimizing adverse pollution impacts. By helping boaters to maintain and improve water quality, the boating experience will be enhanced for all users.

Thank you for your past correspondence on this matter. Please feel free to write to me in the future about this or any other issue of concern to you.

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

Yea, I got her email too. I also received the official press release from RBOC. In spite of what Ms Boxer would like us to believe, the real credit for this bill goes to all the hundreds of thousands of emails sent by recreational boats such as you and I! Also, credit must go to NBMA, Boat US and RBOC for making us all aware of the situation and what we needed to do to make this happen!

Good job, everyone!

I'd like to know how they got Lisa Murkowski to back down. What's interesting is that my boss has a family-owned commercial sport fishing lodge in Alaska, and he never heard anything about this bill. Murkowski was holding it up in an effort to get the exemption to extend to commercial-built fishing boats. I guess she finally relented when she figured out she was the only one swimming upstream.

Or they quietly made a deal with her..... She did not just back off. She got something for her efforts.
