Crown Head Odor - Any suggestions?

I have a Carver 3807 with two Raritan Crown Deep Discharge heads - raw (non-salt) water. Both have been rebuilt and work well. Unfortunatly, I have a persistent odor coming from the front head. Both chemical injection systems are filled with the obligatory "blue stuff" and are working. The problem goes away after a LONG flush, but quickly returns.

Are there any tricks to eliminate this? Should I be using a different chemical. For the record, it is not the one offered by Raritan as I couldn't find it at West Marine.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jeff

Jeff, seeing as how the problem is only with one head, rather than both, I'd guess that you've pulled in something from outside the boat along with the rinse water. Possibly some grass, a minnow, or heaven knows what else. It has caught in the hollow rim at the top of the toilet bowl, and is too big to fit through the drain holes on the underside of the bowl rim. Laying in there, it is decomposing. when you flush enough water through, it dissipates for a while, but then starts stinking again later on.

What I'd suggest you do, is to disconnect the short hose running between the back of the toilet bowl and the top of the intake pump, at the pump. Rotate the bowl elbow so that you have access to the end of the hose that you've just disconnected. Then run a garden hose in and jerry-rig it so that you can supply pressure water to the short hose - and flush the bowl rim out with a steady stream of pressure water.

You'll get all wet and the inside of the head compartment will likely be all wet, too - but that's the only safe way I know of clearing it out.

Thanks for the advice, Vic. I am going to give it a try - hopefully over the weekend. I'll post results at completion.

Thanks again,

Jeff
