We finally decided to go to Sacramento.
We will leave on Wednesday Sept 16 from Alameda and stop the first night in Rio Vista and then continue to Sacramento on Thursday.
I would really appreciate suggestions and advise on where to dock for four nights. There are the Sacramento Marina just before the city, the Riverbank Marina after the city and the Old Sacramento Docks that are very convenient but I understand they have no electricity.
If we stay at the Sacramento Marina, is there a way to get a bus to go to the Old Sacramento?
The boat is a 60 footer with a draft of 5'.
Thank you.

My info is quite old. I stayed at the Sac Marina one weekend. The marina is full service.

We took a cab to Old Sac for dinner. We called for the cab and after an hour, still no cab. The harbormaster was leaving the office and took pity on us. He made a call to the cab company and the cabbie arrived 5 minutes later!

The cabbie [sorry, he had a rag on his head] tried to give us the long-way-around tour. I used to live in Sac and made him go direct!!!! The return cab ride was uneventful.

Have a fun trip!

Arnold,

I would recommend staying at the municipal docks in Old Sacramento. There is electricity and water available and the cost is reasonable. The other option I would consider is Sacramento Yacht Club. They are really friendly and have great dockage. You will need a cab ride to get to town though. I would avoid the Sacramento Marina like the plague .... they have had numerous break in and vandalism problems.

Remember the deep water channel will not allow you to reach Sacramento, you have to take either the Old Sacramento just above Rio Vista or Steamboat Slough. Sounds very basic, but a friend called last week and he had planned to run the deep water channel to save time; lucky he called!

you can ger advance reservations
new rates i think are 1.00 foot
plus i think 10 to15 more per night
for electrical per night

tie well to docks bring rope back to boat
dont leave anything out on boat
lots of late night public walkers looking
to get on your boat and or cause trouble

I've heard of the "stranger" problems, but we've stayed there many Memorial Day weekends and have had zero problems. That may be due to increased traffic that weekend, but I've never personally talked to anyone that had a problem, I've only heard friend of friend stories.

Dave,
What do you know about the Riverbank Marina.
It seems to be nice and only a short dinghy ride to the Old Sacramento area.

We are planning to come back through Steamboat.
Are there any areas we should be worried about?

Arnold,
Riverbank is a very nice marina.... but, I'd call ahead to ensure that they have space for your 60'. And, you are correct about the dingy ride to old Sac...10 to 15 minutes downriver.
Avoid Sacramento marina.... The entrance can be a major pain because of silting...very narrow and a tight left turn once in.
Steamboat will be no problem... Heck, the Delta Queen and King ran that way every day.

Mike

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advises.
I will report back after the cruise
