Someone has "dumped" an old tugboat on the west side of the bridge where folks enter Bethel Island. Yes, it is old and not in good shape for being used. But I think it is really cute! It seems to have a solid wood hull.

I'd love to see the BI Chamber of Commerce "adopt" this tug and maybe put a "Welcome to Bethel Island" sign on it. Leave it where it is anchored. Don't let the sheriff red tag it; just keep any folks off of it.[:-pirate]

Wish I had thought to take a picture of it.....

hmmmmmm ... who owns the boat - does anyone know? What happens if it should sink (or, burn and sink like what happened in Mayberry Slough)? I don't know. Having had to look at the mess in Mayberry for the past 2 years with no one taking responsiblity, along with the ecological mess and general eyesore it is, I'm getting real sensitive to derelict boats. I say get rid of 'em all before they destroy the beauty that is the delta!

No one wants to take responsibility or ownership for derelict boats. Those Mayberry Slu derelicts are in Sac County which does not yet have a tougher law, so it is pretty easy to "dump" them in that county. I'm sure they will have to do as SJ County. We just need to keep the laws from adversely effecting legal boat owners!

My suggestion to have the Chamber take over the tugboat would mean they would have to ensure that it not sink or become a public nuisance!

Well, the tug is no longer anchored west of the bridge. Does anyone know what has happened to it? Did the sheriff or Vessel Assist remove it? Or did it get relocated to Fisherman's Cut or Mayberry Slu?

I would doubt that those guys have internet access........but you might be right!

I doubt they have access either, but I see people living in derelict boats all over the delta. There are a couple of them right by my marina in fact. I went past one which I surely thought was abandoned and then some woman popped her head out of the hatch.

Haven't seen it in Mayberry, but I didn't get to the 'dumpy' side of the slough last weekend!

Maybe I'll cruise through Fisherman's Cut next week and look for it.
