Hey All,

I need some info/advice. I have a 33 footer with v-drives. I have a cutless bearing that is shot. I do all the other work on the boat, but this will be my first experience with cutless bearings. I have to decide weather to take it to a place to be fixed or do it myself. As this thing has v-drives, acess to the coupler to remove the shaft is virtually impossible.

First option is to take it to a repair place that has one of those presses that can remove and install a cutless bearing without removing the shaft. Do you know of a yard that has that? Or second option: do you know where I can rent it to do it myself? Does Bonnie's have one?

I assume that when you replace one you should replace both?

As far as I know, these cutless bearings are orginal. Boat is a '95 and I've had the boat 4 years <and 700 hours>. I just checked these a month ago and they were in good shape. I was supprised to have one go bad do quickly. I don't think there is any rubber left. Any ideas on what happened? <the boat is left in the water>

I've heard this job is a bear. Any other advise?

Thanks for any response.
