Guys, I was hoping you can shed some light on Democrat Point. I used to go there about 20 years ago and I know it was shallow at the mouth of the lagoon, but it was deep in the middle. Over the weekend I went back and it seems the lagoon has filled in. I have a much smaller boat now and still turned up some mud.

One low tide, is the entire lagoon empty now ? Thanks for any input.

You talking on the inside I assume?
Democrat point is the point on the east side of fire island inlet.
I have seen boats anchored inside there but that inlet moves and shifts more than hooker on date!
Even the charts don't show buoys or path.

On the west side of the inlet is Sore thumb which is better but not as easy beach access.

Do watch the currents. I have seen many a raftup break free with the tide shift.

20 years ago. You're talking about the dredge hole that was around the backside of Democrat. That's long gone. It was the greatest thing for a few seasons, but like everything else, the state hated it because they had no jurisdiction over the boats, so they shut it down by placing a few boulders at entrance. It was slowly filling in anyway, and the entrance was shoaling up, so it would have been gone before too long. You can still anchor around back of Democrat, but it's not sheltered like the dredge hole was.

yes, that's what I was thinking about. It's a shame as I saw the boats getting beat up on the backside.
