there is little logic to the gas vs diesel debate just as there is no logic to owning a boat, you buy what you want. That being said above 35' or so diesels have the extra torque to push them on plane and diesels use fuel at roughly 65% of gas to produce the same HP so they have better range for a given tank size.
Diesel will always cost more and return more when sold. large gas boats can be difficult to resell except on inland lakes etc. The decision though is stll what you want not need, though and nobody ever said they wish they had gas instead of diesel though the reverse is common.
Many times folks on lakes are buying a big gas boat would be much better off with a houseboat rather than something designed for and with compromises for rougher water.
