All,
What are the performance differences between the 29 Amberjack and the Sundancer?

Does the heavier Amberjack handle rougher water a lot better? And would one want bigger engines for the AJ?

My goal is very light occasional fishing, but mainly cruising and a few overnights, with 2 to 4 people.

As you've already probably figured out...the Amberjack is heavier...consequently more fuel burn...For what you're going to be using it for...go with the Sundancer...you'll be glad you did.

The Amberjack is a completely different hull with a beam of 10.5 feet. The Sundancer has a 9.5 foot beam, but has a roomier, more inviting cabin. The Amberjack has an awesome cockpit though. My dock neighbor has the AJ, and it's actually quite livable...theirs has 5.0 B3's and moves quite well and fuel burn isn't too aweful considering it's weight

In a 29 Dancer I felt they used the room poorly. I have a 330 which has an 11.5' beam and compared to other 33's I think Searay did a real good job using the space.

If you are going to fish more than overnight, go for the AJ. If you are going to overnight more than fish, go for the dancer.

Unless you are going to tow either, go for the 330 for the reasons bob richards mentions.

I'll do way more overnites. What's the weight on the 330 and how likely could I get one with IOs? I may have a weight problem with my lift and I need the IOs for shallow water.

The v-drives have tunnel's so you may be surprised. The v-drive engine is slightly more forward and therefore will not bring the stern down so much. You would need a 16,000 pound lift and depending on the year you get the weight can vary what I would consider a lot. If you go to the searay website they have all the specs for all of their boats for all of the years in the archive section so you can get all those specific details. I have seen many 330's with outdrives and they are really fast and cost less than the v-drives.
