I believe this could be a great lake boat for our family. I welcome feedback on the good & bad. Does anyone know if the hull bottom or hull sides are cored, wood or fiberglass stringers, any problem areas to look for? If I find one I like, I will have a boat & engine survey but would like to know if there are known concerns with this model.

Solid glass bottom, possible cored sides (usually done above 32'). The stringers are wood covered with glass. Nice wide boat, but, if you can, take it for a sea trial as it doesn't run super great. too short for it's beam. When it became the 320 Voyager, they lengthened the hull and improved the ride tremendously. Nice boat otherwise...no trouble spots that I'm aware of.

Thanks Kenny. I was hoping you would respond. I appreciate your insight and will make sure to sea trial if I proceed.

Hello -

First time post here - I hope the 300 Sedan is a good family boat as I just put an offer on a 1993! Actually looking for a good surveyor for the carver. Boat is currently in Central NY, but will be used on lake George!

Thanks

check out the surveyor forum. many of us have used the moderator, al prisco, for our surveys and highly recommend him.

So, I found a SURVEYOR...and now I need to transport the Carver 300 from Lake Ontario to Lake George asap. I am getting different opinions on what needs to be "disassembled" on the flybridge. One transport company says just remove prop and possibly seats on bridge, while others say it is a 3 to 4 hour job to remove railings, windshied etc.

Anybody with experience or recommendations?

Thanks, David

I never heard of this model or the aft stateroom version until I read about the boat here on BE. I went to Yahtworld.com and found about 6 for sale. The model I like has diesels the other 5 were gas powered boats. It looks like a nice package for a couple doing the back bays and ICW.

i had my 1996 voyager 320 shipped from the west coast (seattle area) to the east coast (nj). a lot depends on the rig used to transport the boat. for mine, only the windshield on the bridge needed to be removed. that said, it was a pain in the butt to reassemble, but much better than reattaching an entire bridge. my boat arrived so filthy that i hardly recognized it. if i shipped again, i would seriously consider shrink wrapping it first.

Yeah, I inquired about shrinkwrapping prior to haul (basically, across New York State), but was told that would be an unessary expense just to uncover it in a few day? I am leery though..the boat is very clean now.

Best of luck be sure to post some pictures when you get her home.

GREAT News! My Carver has arrived at Lake George! AWFUL NEWS: It has Zebra Mussels which need to be completely removed before it can go in my slip AND the sinks (which currently drain overboard) need to be redirected into a "holding tank" as per Lake George regulation!

At this point, I will be lucky to have boat in slip by Memorial Day Weekend as there is a "drying out" period after cleaning off the mussels?

Anybody have similar experience with mussels and/or the sink discharge issue?

Just venting here - Regards

I would suggest getting a bladder tank for your Gray water. The sinks and shower must all go into it. I suggest a bladder tank because they can fit almost anywhere. You might also need a sump box I know mine has enough inlets to do 2 sinks and a shower. I think Lake George is one of the only places that does not allow for any Gray water discharge. You will also need a water pump to empty the bladder tank. I personally can't imagine trying to hold all the gray water my boat uses when we are on it for 4 to 5 days.
Do not attempt to dump your gray water into the holding tank every sink drain will stink actually the boat will stink.

A better suggestion is take your boat somewhere else that doesn't have gray water discharge laws.

Thanks BillyIII -

I had the local marina take care of the gray water issue as to comply with Lake George Rules and Regs.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend - This will be my first overnight on my new boat with my family!!

I hope you are in the water and having fun with your family.

Thanks Bill!

Doing just that (weekends anyway). BTW - the 300 Carver Sedan is a great family boat!!

Thanks!

Hello All,

Still a newbie here -

Does anybody know if I should shut off the water "valve" (red lever, located under salon in bildge area) during the week when I am not using the boat? I did, and two things happened when I returned to boat: 1) a humming so I switched off the water pressure breaker (humming stopped), and noticed I can no longer "bleed" the AC line (also located in bildge)?

Thanks, David
