2.5 Mercs, on my 24' Fiberform.
I was working by myself. I had the tilt way up.
I put the ears on, started the water, and climbed up into the boat to start the engine.
It Hydrolocked!
This was a new boat to me. I thought all kinds of things about the manifolds and all.
It was simply that I had started the hose into the lower unit,(probably too much water pressure too) the water went past the pump up into the block/manifold and on it's way out, got dammed up in the exhaust somewhere and ran back up the pipe through the exhaust valves that were open. I pulled the plugs and when the water shot out, I knew what I'd done. Just too old and slow on that ladder.
I'm just too slow going up that ladder. Once I figured it out, it never happend again.
I thought I'd mention that when I see all these threads on 'tilt' problems. so a guy working on his tilt problem does not experienced a 'self in flicted wound' like I did.
Now that either a DUH? or a Hmmm!
