Before we left town for two weeks (26th wedding anniversary) we told the harbormaster about the ducks. Lucky for all of us.
He says they heard a lot "cheeping" and noise from the cockpit of our Tollycraft so a few of them went to investigate. "Mommy" was in the water telling her young ones to join her.
(or something like that)
They found two eggs did not hatch. They found one dead chick on the floor of the cockpit and 6 live ones. They set the chicks in the water and their "Mommy" promptly took them to the next marina downstream. So 6 of 9 made it.
Why did they leave? We have a 500 pound+ sea lion who sleeps up by our bow. Smart move on her part I bet.
I cleaned the mess up (on the dinghy) and wished them well.
