We purchased a Bertram last summer. One of the reasons for the selection of this boat was that it had two inboard 340 hp diesel engines. One of the positives of two engines, we thought, was if we were out on the water and one engine went down we would still be able to get back, just real slow. Well one time we had the boat out, one of the engines did quit. We attempted to use the other engine to move the boat into safer water to figure out the engine problem, but could only get the boat to go in circles with the one engine. Someone moved us into safer water and we eventually figured out what was wrong with the one engine and got it going. However, it was rather disconcerting that we couldn't move in a straight line with one engine. Were we wrong in thinking we had engine redundancy with two engines or did we not know how to operate a twin engine inboard boat with only one engine running?
