Things in life getting better so we have little free time on weekend, wife and I would like to exploring the Chesapeake by land first, we'd like to go to places along the river by car on weekend, would like to start close from home (PA) then go farther away down to the river once we are familiar with the local. Any pointer as to where to stay/eat for a day or two. Have to be back home on Sunday.

Havre d'Grace, Bal'mer, Annapolis, Deale, Chesapeake Beach, Solomons Island... and Chesapeake City, Rock Hall, Chesterown, Kent Narrows, St. Michaels, Oxford, Cambridge...

One at a time.

Start at Delaware City, located at the old section of the C&D Canal. Interesting area to visit. Crabby Dick's restaurant offers good food.

Next, 15 miles to Chesapeake City Md. Located on active part of Canal. Museum is there but only opened on weekdays. Several restaurants to choose from for food.

From there take Rt 213 south for about 13 miles to Georgetown/Fredericktown Md at head of Sassafras River. Again good restaurants and several marinas.

Next stop is Rock Hall about 30 miles from Georgetown. You can get there via several routes but using rt 213 will take you thru Galena and Chestertown, Md.... worth visiting too. Use rt 20 out of Chestertown to get to Rock Hall. Before you get to Rock Hall, you might want to turn off Rt 20 to visit Tolchester (see signs along way when on Rt 20).

Next stop would be St. Michaels, about 60 miles from Rock Hall. On your return from St, Micheal's, use the Oxford ferry. Great side trip. Good luck.

You should, of course, Google everyone of the stops to get more details. good luck

Dat, message me when you are headed towards Chestertown. Memorial Day weekend is Tea Party Weekend in Chestertown (think Red Coats, not conservatives). Its the biggest festival of the year in Chestertown. If you are in the area we can get together (finally). Or, we can meet in Rock Hall. The Harbor Shack is our preferred watering hole and burger place there. Lots to see and do along the shores of the Chesapeake. There is always a special event somewhere on the Eastern Shore.

Chesapeake Bay Magazine is a good source for such information. They also publish a guide to the Chesapeake Bay which is great for finding interesting places to visit.
