Went to the Bowline fireworks last night and was impressed. Prior to them, we got a warm up by watching across the river at the Croton ones. In the pond at Bowline, we were a couple of hundred yards from where they shot them off. It was a great show, and the echoing off the mountain was an added bonus.

We haven't been to Bowline on the 4th in many years, but were thrilled that we were there last night.

Now if we can only get rid of this crappy weather.

Good to hear ya had a great time , we were outside bowline and a few looked like they went off real low in bowline from where we were.
The rain came right after as usual , and we got stuck in the pack of knuckel heads , the idiots with thier spots lights on blinding everyone are my favorite , along with the jiber jabering morons on ch69 +the go fasts cutting us off from every direction.

Should have left early and found you guys in bulline , headed to the city for macys in a few for some more punishment :)
HAPPY 4 TH EVERYBODY......Jon

What is it with the idiots on the radio?????? Had to turn it off last night as it was much too asinine.

Sitting off Centre Island as I type this, looking forward to some great fireworks tonight.

Whish i had an answer for ya on that rommer

Answer:
A bunch of boaters who probably don't get away from the dock too often, let alone at night. Many friends and/or relatives of these boaters who seldom, if ever, get on a boat.
Throw in a few drinks along the way and the "captain" (using that term very loosely) starts playing the role for his guests. Idle and idiotic radio chit-chat results. (It looks and sounds cool to his guests).

I think you nailed that one John H . Hope you had a good 4th weekend , I was looking for you guys thursday and the rest of the gang but the rain made quick work of that. Mabey we will get a beer in one of these weekends :).... Jon

This years Bowline show was very good.

We enjoyed it and when it was over was more fun as usual. Why does almost every have to pickup and leave in a race fashion when its over? Mandatory licenses, training, testing and IQ checks are needed ASAP! I was anchored trying to get our canvas up due to the rain falling and I almost went in the water thanks to the $&*#*#S that had to drive by within 50 feet of me while getting up on plane. Thank god I do not own a flare gun for that reason.

I ended up running down to Nyack to catch the fireworks there Friday night. It was pretty dead there because of the crap weather we were having. It was kind of amusing to watch other boaters. One boat came in 5 minutes before it started anchored 50 feet from me. (there was noone there so why so close). Another boat came in during the fireworks tried to anchor unsuccessfully and then as soon as they finished was gone. The winner had to be someone coming up from probably from the NYC show around 11:30. I saw him coming from a few miles away due to them driving with their bow spotlight going the whole way. No moon, pouring rain, and doing 30+ with the spotlight blaring away. I kept getting blinded because he was passing me so closely that I wanted to keep an eye on where he was going.

Not sure what the hurry was. After they passed it was a nice ride back as the rain lightened up.

All in all it was a good time even though it looked like I took a shower on the way back.

I get a huge kick out of the "Yo Bro, got your ears on" and "10-4's" I hear constantly on the radio, but a few weeks ago I heard a guy..I think it was on 68, who's language was certainly the worst I ever heard. Not sure why someone would be that idiotic.

I am up in the area for the weekend, any suggestions as to be place to view the fireworks from the water?

Thanks

just north of the Indian Point nuke plant. Where are you?

I spent last night and am now in the southern Croton Bay. Nice storm this morning and sunrise was beautiful. Took some pics, will try to upload.

rob: what you describe is no different than the drag races every Sunday out of the church parking lot. Those folks all have licenses and just got the word as well.

As usual the Peekskill Fireworks are the best on the river in this area. Great show not allot of boats out there. But again the brainless wonders that dont have a clue about boating out there. All in all it was a great show.

Yes, they were excellent, a lot of new stuff, I liked the "USA" fireworks.

I concur. As always the Peekskill fireworks show is a must see!!
