Yesterday I almost had a King Mackeral (I think) boated and some other creature of the deep decided they needed my catch more than I did. It cut off my whole terminal rig, planer, duster, et al. I know the line did not break because the pull was not that great. Brand new 70 pound spider wire.

It was a beautiful day, but somewhat rough. Three to four foot rollers with a short period and chop on the top. Hard to stand in the boat for my passengers. We quit after about 3 hours with three spanish and 5 kings in the boat.

If it was a cut off above the planer it could have been any number of fish that would respond to the flash of the planer. I've seen bluefish, spanish, kings and baracuda take swipes at my planers. Don't know about you but I hate it when stuff like that happens.

I am with you, just hate it.

I have even had something (shark, barracuda, or something take half of my catch. I have brought to the boat the front half of a king. For just a moment I really thought I had a big one.

I guess that just put's a lock on my planned trip to the gulf. I'll stay up here where the Catfish leave us alone, and normally our bait as well.

A friend and I spent an afternoon fishing around an artificial reef off the coast of NC. We were getting good King Mackerel bites but every second or third bite as we began to fight the fish we would get a thump on the line and then it was just dead weight.

We caught our half our limit of kings - the front half.

Thud - there's nothing like the thrill of catching something that isn't afraid of you!
