My wife and I are kicking around moving to florida in our retirement approx. 9 years from now and we want to do a little pre-planning. We want to be able to boat over to the Bahamas easily from time to time from our home base. Where would be a good place (city) to live in to be able to do this? We would be looking for maybe a condo or single family home on a canal, resonablely priced to buy now or just before retirement. Not being from Florida, is it even worth it to go over to the Bahamas or do you think we would be plenty happy boating in say the Pumta Gorda area. I noticed there is some resonabley priced housing there.

thanks for your help!

We live in Baltimore now.

hey Finn Dont know were houseing market will be in 9 years. Probaly not cheap on water. But I am a big Bahamas fan. canot beat the color and clarity of the water. The farther east you go the beter the fishing. Hundreds of islands to exsplore.

Punta Gorda is a great area and pretty cheep. You won't be able to get to the Bahamas until Lake O fills a few feet more. Check out Burnt Store. Great Marina and pretty quick access to the Gulf. Plenty of condos. If you change your mind and want a single family, there are plenty for sale in Cape Coral where we are.
